چکیده

Minimizing fuel consumption of passenger car vehicles can be achieved thanks to hybridization the powertrain associated with innovative engine technologies. To feed new high compression ratio combustion systems, air system cutting-edge technologies are used manage and EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) quantities. Increasing allows us improve in efficiency area, but it comes at cost a loss stability. It is then primary importance able near stability limit minimize consumption. So far, managed open-loop conservative calibration quantity, implying losses. This paper addresses feedback control using in-cylinder pressure sensors. From this information, an indicator proposed, offering more robust behavior transient situations than state-of-the-art indicators. controller that adapts target go towards limit. Experimental results obtained on gasoline stress relevance approach minimizing under real driving conditions.

Cylinder pressure based combustion phase optimization and control in spark-ignited engines

Efficiency and emissions of spark-ignited engines are significantly affected by combustion phase which can usually be indicated by crank angle of 50% mass burnt (CA50). Managing combustion phase at the optimal value at which the maximal efficiency can be achieved is a challenging issue due to the cyclic variations of combustion process. This paper addresses this issue in two loops: CA50 set-poi...

Cylinder Pressure-Based Control of Pre-Mixed Diesel Combustion

Implementation of real-time combustion feedback for use in closed-loop combustion control is a technology that has potential to assist in the successful production implementation of advanced diesel combustion modes. Low-temperature, pre-mixed diesel combustion is presently of interest because it offers the ability to lower the engine-out emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and particulate mat...

High Frequency Individual Cylinder Estimation for Control of Diesel Engines

HighFrequency Individual CylinderEstimation forControl ofDiesel Engines—Increasingly stringent pollution regulations have spurred a broad interest in the reduction of engine emissions. Two strategies can be considered: after-treatment or engine emissions reduction. For Diesel engines, after-treatment has a high cost induced by the required technology and implementation issues. In this context, ...

Low Temperature Combustion – A Thermodynamic Pathway to High Efficiency Engines

This article makes the argument that compression ignition combustion processes that are “flameless” with volumetric energy release, described as Low Temperature Combustion (LTC), are a thermodynamic pathway to maximizing the efficiency of reciprocating piston, internal combustion engines. The argument is built from the foundation of determining the maximum theoretical efficiency for an IC Engin...

Transient combustion control of internal combustion engines

This thesis addresses the problem of combustion control for automotive engines. A method is proposed to complement existing controllers, which use lookup tables based on steady-state operation. During transients, the new control method adjusts fast control variables (ignition or injection time) to compensate for deviations in the cylinder initial conditions from their optimal values due to the ...
